DEERINGTON
IN CHARACTER
Character Name: Kravitz
Canon: The Adventure Zone Balance

In-Game Tattoo Placement: Shoulder
Current Health/Status: Perma undead/ Uninjured
Age: Unknown. Very old.
Species: Undead
Content Warnings: Spoilers
History: ZOINK and Zoink 2-He makes sporadic appearances from Crystal Kingdom onwards.
Personality:
The grim reaper is said to be an imposing figure-intimidating and cold and nigh impossible to read. In a sense, Kravitz is like that and in an even greater sense, he definitely isn't.
At first glance, he's an intimidating presence. Usually donning his skeleton appearance when going after bounties, he does everything he can to ensure he's the scariest being around. So much so that he's thrown off when the boys (Taako, Magnus, and Merle), upon their first meeting, aren't even remotely scared of him. Their casual attitude kinda throws him through a loop. He's not used to surprises in his line of work, having seen and gone through almost everything possible during his thousands of years of service. These situations throw him off and this is most notable when Taako uses a magic fork to eat a piece of him after he transformed into a golem. He actually, like, just up and left, unable to take that whole situation. Rarely do things require him to regroup, but when they do, he will physically leave.
Which is to say, that's an extremely rare occurrence. Kravitz Adventurezone never gives up and remains focused on his task until it's completed, no matter how long it takes. He's confident in his own power and takes pride in his position. He has a deep respect for gods, the order of the universe and his place in it. He's a composed individual and while he doesn't mind picking a fight, and does at times, he would rather discuss problems before jumping in. After the battle with the boys, he doesn't reappear until Taako adds to his death count and he calmly shows up in his home to discuss the matter. He ends up getting dragged on a date, which was unexpected, but he just sorta went with it.
He works in service of the Raven Queen, who is the goddess of death in the TAZ universe. His main job isn't to collect all souls who depart the world, though he would gladly guide someone to the Astral Plane, a place where all those dank dead souls go. His actual job is being a bounty hunter for those who commit necromancy, death crimes, escape the Astral Plane or just mess around with death for funzies. He's around to keep the balance of life/death in place and make sure things are working smoothly and properly, with no kinks in the machine.
As such, he's a very law oriented individual. Everything has a place and there's a reason for those systems to be there. Though he also has a tendency to bend the rules for people and he's driven by his own idea of justice. He lets a ghost possessed robot stay alive, he doesn't punish Lucas, a bounty he had been chasing for necromancy crimes, because he was able to get his mother's soul to come back with him. Even if he doesn't necessarily Like It, he does have a conscience and the ability to think for himself, despite what his job requires.
This is most notably towards the end of canon, after realizing Lup and Barry turned into liches to save the world. A normally clear cut situation re: liches are bad, gotta put them in jail, no mercy became something very different. He actually went to the Raven Queen to argue their case, flip flopping on a thousands year old attitude because for once, something was not quite right with their situation. Thanks to his efforts, and their track record saving the world, he was able to get them jobs as co-reapers with him.
At times, he can be kind. These moments are most noticeable once he starts dating Taako, a previous bounty, and kind of ignores the fact he's supposed to be capturing this boy for death crimes. He actually craves this positive attention. This sort of mushy, domestic life is something he enjoys and it can be inferred he didn't have this sort of relationship when he was alive. He shows a different side of himself to people he genuinely cares for-he can be a funny, caring and kind person. His big hobby is practicing accents. He's really just a soft nerd at heart. It just takes the right situation and people.
It also takes the right situation to make him fear something. The Hunger reaching the Astral plane, his home, and cutting off his connection to the Queen was a distressing point for him. He was trapped, powerless, for what might've been the first time in thousands of years. He had no idea what to do and it isn't until the Hunger is defeated that he's freed. That has left a mark on him. There situations where he can't be in control, where he had no knowledge to save himself, no way to intimidate the enemy-that fear of being consumed by a pitch, black nothingness has stuck with him to this day. He doesn't mention it, but it comes up in situations where he's isolated or alone.
Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping:
Form manipulation: As a thousands year old undead being, he doesn't have a set appearance. He has a mortal form that allows him to take the form of an adult male and it's for appearances only. His skin is ice cold, he doesn't have a heartbeat and requires none of that ding dang sleep or other stuff mortals need to live. There's always spare raven feathers in his pocket so he can communicate with the Queen. He can also make his own funky fresh outfits this way, but it's always like gothic chic and there's nearly always a cape.
He can also shift into a skeleton and this his appearance when he hunts bounties. It's pretty much what you'd expect-humanoid skeleton with glowing red eyes and a black robe. Awesome. Dope.
Then he has funky ability to just be a soul-a little ball of light and that has its own set of rules. This is how he easily possesses other forms or he can make his own easy bake oven form using whatever the heck he wants. He's pretty creative with it and even becomes a crystal golem in the series using pieces of a crystallized lab to attack the boys with.
The warp will be that he cannot possess anything alive or an item larger than domestic housecat.
Radiant and/or light based damage can beat his ass into the ground regardless of the form. That's what he gets for being a grim reaper, honestly. Throw a flashlight at him and see what happens (nothing, that's not radiant. But my point stands.)
Rifts: His job requires a lot of travel and his scythe allows him to jump around space and time at his leisure on whatever plane he feels like hunting people on. He has to frequently drag souls with him, so it's assumed he can bring others along this fun adventure. The warp will cause him appear in random places in Deerington when he creates a rift.
Flight: He can fly (he can fly) he can fly (he can fly) he can fly. The warp will cause him to feel like he's tangled up, if he tries to leave.
Death knowledge: He works under The Raven Queen and because of that, he's required to uphold the laws regarding death. To make it easier, bird mama gave him a book that updates with a person's death status and count. Generally any number over [one] is pretty bad and he'll use this knowledge to take people back to the Astral Plane, even if they aren't on his current TDL. He can also tell if there's some necromantic activity going on and if there are other undead beings in the area.
Awakened Mind/Telepathy: There's a fun DND spell that Kravitz is implied to have because he speak into the boys' mind at one point. Awakened mind allows you to telepathically speak with another creature/person if they're near him. Even if they don't speak the same language, they'll be able to communicate, but the party in question must know [one] language. Which means he probably can't talk to rocks or sea urchins. The warp will cause him to occasionally hear a soft voice.
Darkvision: He can see in the dark!! But can't decipher colors. He's like a dog.
Telekinesis: He can move things with his MIND. The warp will cause him feel strained and exhausted the longer/heavier an object is.
Inventory:
-A scythe (doesn't need to be carried. he can zip zap in and out of existence at will)
-Raven feathers
-Death Book (that updates in this world w/ permission from players)
